Horse Success Story:
Chino arrived at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in late 2009…a chestnut paint quarter horse reduced to nothing more than skin stretched over a skeleton. This beautiful gelding arrived 300+ pounds underweight, dehydrated, with severely overgrown teeth, parasitic infestation, overgrown hoofs and itchy, painful rain rot.

Chino’s posture said it all…a dull flat expression with no interest in his new surroundings. He stepped off the trailer grinding his teeth, foaming and salivating at the mouth. An emergency vet visit revealed horribly long, sharp teeth that were immediately filed down, but not before the inside of his cheeks had been cut rubbed raw.

Chino was not interested in munching hay or drinking water and less than 48 hours after arrival, he was rushed to an equine hospital for intensive, 24-hour treatment of a potentially fatal gut impaction. Chino fought to live and after five critical days, he returned to Days End.

Eventually, this gorgeous boy blossomed and found his forever home with an amazing woman who already owns eight Days End horses. Thanks in no small part to a generous grant from the Brennan Equine Welfare Fund, Chino’s life today is full of love and affection, in the safe hands he has always deserved.

Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation

Days End Farm Horse Rescue is a Maryland-based organization that is nationally recognized for responding to calls for help when a horse is in trouble.  We help Animal Control remove horses from situations of abuse and neglect, provide shelter for abused/neglected horses, and offer rescue services during disasters.

Our dedicated team of veterinarians, farriers, staff and volunteers nurse horses back to health while handling and preparing them for loving homes.

Horse Adoptions & Sponsorships

Are you thinking of adopting a horse?  Check out or Adoption Guidelines and come meet our horses!  Not looking to adopt but long to be involved?  We have foster care and sponsorship opportunities for horses not yet ready for adoption, or for seniors and other special needs horses.

Educational Training for Youth & Adults

Thinking about buying your first horse?  Want to know what to do if your horse falls and can't get up?  We offer a variety of Educational Training for Youth & Adults, horse care clinics, large animal rescue training, cruelty investigation workshops... We also have internships for adult students thinking of an equine career.

Events & Lectures

Do you have a horse lover in the family?  Bring the kids to one of our many year-round events - like our Spring Carnival or Fall Festival, where you'll enjoy games, pony rides and a pettying zoo.  Girl Scouts can earn their horse lovers badge at Days End.  Fun-loving adults may want to take in our Holiday Party or Grapes of Hooves event.  You can also invite a Share A Heart facilitator to come speak at your school or organization!

Volunteer Program

Volunteers are the foundation of our rescue and rehabilitation work!  Our horses wouldn't get all the time and attention they deserve, and we couldn't offer our various programs without volunteers.  Join us and receive an in-depth orientation and training on horse care and management.  The horses neeed you, and we need you!

Overreaching Goals:

  • To provide transportation, holding facilities and quality care for abused and neglected horses.

  • To promote public awareness for the dramatic prevalence of horse abuse and neglect.

  • To foster coorporation and coordination with Maryland humane officials in their abuse investigations.

  • To involve the community in events, activities and a continuing enviroment which teaches patience, kindness and creates a sense of moral and social wel-being.
